"Self-projection onto a Mannequin"
I came up with an idea to dress my chair at home with a knit top.
The knit top was stretched and distorted by the chair's back and seat, and volume appeared within the connected points of contact. The two sleeves were hanging down with no strength, and four legs were visible underneath. A new character was born- to me it appeared charming, yet it looked sad.
Since becoming an adult, the act of putting on and taking off clothes has become a natural habit, similar to the act of breathing. However, when the subject of clothing suddenly shifted from myself to a chair and appeared in front of me, I relived the experience of dressing.
The theme of malamute’s newest collection is "touched".
When putting your hand through a knit sleeve, putting your head through a knit clothing, hearing the sound of the knit stretching and shrinking, and seeing the color of the human structure reflected in the shadows, I feel as if I have touched a beautiful scene in my daily life.
When I heard Mari Odaka's theme for this collection, she used the word "anthropomorphism”. I feel that this word also resembles a moment when one soars into the air and is replaced by some object or space.
In other words, these objects are like "mannequins”. Although they do not have human form, the act of dressing and undressing these small objects gives me an opportunity to revisit my own memories.
The painted steel structure and the LED light leaking through the knit are myself and yourself.
Through these series of verifications, I strongly feel that clothing is what makes us humans be humans.
